Does it not say in the Bible Genesis 1:28 to Subdue and Dominate the Earth and All Other Living Beings so how r u horrified when it’s clear as day…the Doctrine of Christian Discovery stemming from church dogma from the Pope is the same
Let me start by saying I see these connections in the history of Christianity as well. I am well aware of the way in which Christian doctrine has been used at many times in history to prop up the causes of empire and to justify the subjugation of people and the abuse of creation.
But I also hope that you can appreciate and respect that people like myself believe that these abusive teachings and forms of Christianity are a betrayal of the person and the teaching of Jesus, not a proper fulfillment of them. That's why Brandi in her article here points to what I believe Jesus would call the "weightier matters of the law," such as Jesus command to Love thy neighbour (Mark 12:31) and his reminder that what you do to the least of these, you do to me (Matthew 25:40), but also the witness of the old testament prophets who call people to seek justice, correct oppression. (Isaiah 1:17) speaking against those who make unjust laws and those who issue oppressive decrees (Isaiah 10:1-2).
In these days Christianity is once again being invoked to justify violence and greed (sadly, this is nothing new) but along with many others I am opposed to these forms of Christianity precisely because I am a Christian who is trying to follow the way of Jesus. You don't have to agree with my faith, or Brandi's faith, but if you support Brandi's work I hope you can appreciate and respect when Brandi connects her Christian faith to the work she does as a journalist and as an advocate for indigenous peoples.
This isn't a new thing. It's just a continuation of the normal systemic racism all governments enact. The UCP just happens to be one of the worst perpetrators.
